A man arrested in an apparent random stabbing on Miami Beach is also found child pornography charges after officers found disturbing images on his phone, authorities said.
Sebastian Tomas Datorre Rodriguez, 21, was initially arrested on an attempted murder charge in the stabbing that happened around 3 a.m. Sunday, an arrest report said.
According to the report, officers responded to area of Lincoln Road and Washington Avenue regarding a male stabbed in the neck and found the victim was bleeding profusely from his neck.
He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center with a laceration to his neck that damaged the salivary and mandibular gland, the report said.
After undergoing surgery, he was in stable condition.
The victim, Halbert Thomas, said he was sleeping near Soundscape Park when he awoke to pain in his neck from being stabbed by the suspect, who said “there, gotcha,” after the stabbing, the report said.
A silver kitchen knife was found at the scene with blood on it, the report said.
Shortly after the stabbing, Datorre Rodriguez entered the Miami Beach Police Department saying he had stabbed someone in the neck, the report said.
Police body camera footage showed him arriving at the police station and speaking with an officer.
“I committed a couple felonies tonight and I just want to turn myself in,” he said in the video
Datorre Rodriguez told investigators he “had been thinking about stabbing someone for the past two or three days and wanted to carry it out,” adding that he “did not want to be a burden to his family and wanted a ‘change of scenery,’” the report said.
“The defendant believed that stabbing someone would send him to prison for a long time,” the report said. “The defendant said he wanted to stab a random person and had never interacted with the victim in the past.”
