A driver was arrested after he struck a Broward Sheriff’s deputy’s cruiser twice before fleeing outside a gentleman’s club in West Park early Monday, authorities said.
The incident happened around 3 a.m. in the area of West Hallandale Beach Boulevard near Southwest 58th Avenue outside Playhouse Gentlemen’s Club.
Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said the driver of a Cadillac Escalade was leaving the club’s parking lot at a high rate of speed when he lost control and struck the deputy’s vehicle.
The driver then backed up and hit the deputy’s vehicle a second time before fleeing, officials said.
But the vehicle quickly became disabled and the driver, identified by BSO as Mervin Coffy, was taken into custody.
Officials haven’t said what charges Coffy faces.
Footage from the scene showed the deputy’s vehicle heavily damaged with airbags deployed.
The deputy suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation.
