Dad of alleged victim speaks as ex-South Plantation High teacher gets $500K bond

The father of a teen girl who was allegedly harassed by her former teacher at South Plantation High School is speaking out as the educator and coach faced a Broward judge for the first time on Wednesday.

Colby Erskin is facing charges of solicitation of a child and transmission of material harmful to minors, Broward jail records showed.

Erskin, 39, was arrested last week by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office on a Broward County warrant and was booked into Broward’s main jail on Tuesday.

On Wednesday morning, he appeared before a Broward judge for a hearing where a prosecutor asked for a $50,000 bond.

But the judge said the amount was too low and set a $500,000 bond, and ordered Erskin to have no contact with the alleged victim or any minors.

Erskin was a math teacher and head football coach at South Plantation High School before leaving in 2024.

Yaniv Rosenberg said Erskin, his daughter’s math teacher last year, sent a naked selfie to her when she was just 15 years old. He also said Erskin tried to groom her.

“From ‘do you need help in math?’ to ‘you look cute,’ to sexual comments, to ‘do you want to hang out?’ to ‘can I see you after the football game?’ to freakin’ naked pics of himself,” Rosenberg said.

The former head football coach at South Plantation High School arrested amid allegations of improper conduct with a child faced a Broward judge on Wednesday.

Rosenberg was asked what he told his daughter about the allegations.

“What do I say to my daughter? Stay away from [expletive] scumbags,” he said.

Records showed Erskin was most recently the head football coach at Mount Dora High School in Lake County.

“Mr. Erskin is no longer employed with Lake County Schools. He was dismissed today, while still in his probationary period with the district, after we learned of his arrest,” Lake County Schools officials said in a statement to WESH on Friday.

Erskin was expected to post bond and be released from jail, possibly as early as Wednesday evening.
