Three siblings are holding tight to each other after their brother was killed in a car crash in Tamarac this week.
Gloria Turner, Olga Gaskins and Rupert Wilson spoke to NBC6 on Thursday about Ronald Wilson’s sudden death after coming home from making arrangements at the funeral home.
“I lost it, I couldn’t believe it, I said, what happened?” Turner cried as she explained her reaction when she learned of her brother’s death.
“It hurts to know he’s gone like this. He didn’t deserve to go out this way because he’s a good person,” Gaskins said. “He was at my house before that day. He was at my house and then later on he’s gone. It is sad. Very sad.”
Ronald Wilson was driving a silver pickup truck when a Broward Sheriff’s deputy in an SUV slammed into him along Prospect Road at Northwest 31st Avenue at about 11:55 p.m. Monday.
A civilian driver was killed in a crash with a Broward Sheriff’s Office cruiser in Tamarac that began with a pursuit, according to BSO.
His siblings said he was giving a friend a ride home at the time. That friend is recovering in the hospital.
BSO investigators say Deputy Brian Quintal was pursuing an aggravated battery suspect who had just driven through the intersection moments before. Quintal is also recovering from his injuries.
Sean Paul Holder, 30, is charged with multiple felonies ties to the crash, including murder by another while engaged in a felony.
Detectives say deputies began pursuing him Monday after Holder committed aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, which they say is a forcible felony.
The circumstances are agonizing for Wilson’s family.
“The thought of knowing that my brother is not here, the thought of knowing I can’t pick up the phone and call my brother….,” Turner said, trailing off in tears.
“When I lost my husband, he’s the first one I called, and he was there. He held me in his arms, and he said, ‘Gloria, I will be always here for you.’ And now he’s gone, he’s not here anymore for me,” she said.
Holder is being held at the Broward County Jail without bond.
NBC6 spoke with Wilson’s wife, who didn’t want to comment for this story, and referred us to her attorney.
BSO says its pursuit review board is reviewing how the pursuit unfolded. BSO’s Homicide, Violent Crimes and Internal Affairs units are also investigating the incident.
