A local family is asking for the public’s help finding the driver responsible for hitting and killing their loved one and then leaving the scene.
The victim was on his way to work on his motorcycle when he was struck, his body left on West Sunrise Boulevard in Lauderhill.
Police say they found the vehicle involved, but so far, no arrests have been made.
Pictures of 34-year old Erik Zepeda Villalobos show a happier time alongside his family. But now those memories are all his brother Henry Villalobos has to hold on to.
Villalobos broke down in tears while speaking with NBC6 on Thursday, recounting how his family’s world was shattered last week.
“It hurts in the soul. I wish this to nobody and I hope that the person who did this has a heart and realize what he has done,” Villalobos said.
Lauderhill police say officers were called to the scene just after 6:30 a.m. on Feb. 13. When they arrived, authorities found a red motorcycle with extensive damage.
Debris was seen scattered along West Sunrise Boulevard near North State Road 7, including a helmet.
“He was later run over by several cars because this car refused to stop and help another person,” the family’s attorney, Jocelyn Santana, said. “It’s not only a crime, but this is a complete tragedy.”
Zepeda Villalobos died at the scene.
Investigators say the vehicle that hit him was a grey Tesla Model Y, which has since been located in Lauderhill.
An arrest, however, has not been made.
“I’m looking for justice, because this person is still out there, and it’s not only for me… he could be driving another car, he could hit somebody else,” the victim’s brother said.
Zepeda Villalobos left behind three children.
“We’re destroyed. My mother is destroyed. My mother cries every day, every night. She’s waiting to see her son one last time,” Villalobos said.
As the family works to find justice, they’ve set up a GoFundMe account with the goal of raising money for a funeral and to send Zepeda Villalobos’ body back to their native Honduras, where their grieving mother still lives.
If you know anything that could help Lauderhill police make an arrest, you’re urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
