Crews were still working to extinguish hot spots at the scene of a massive fire at a northwest Miami-Dade warehouse on Tuesday, five days after the blaze broke out.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said Tuesday that deep-seated hot spots remain inside the warehouse in the 20600 block of Northwest 47th Avenue.
Though the fire began on Thursday, demolition crews were continuing to remove debris to reach areas that are still burning and are inaccessible to firefighters, officials said.
Officials said the fire quickly consumed the structure, located just east of Red Road and south of Florida’s Turnpike Extension, which is more than twice the size of a Costco warehouse.
Authorities also asked anyone with equipment stored in the lot to come pick it up as soon as possible because crews want to start demolition of the warehouse, and it’s raising concerns for some people in the community.
More than 200 firefighters had responded to the scene as the call was initially a two-alarm fire but quickly grew to a five-alarm blaze.
No one has been injured in the fire, but officials are warning nearby residents about smoky conditions and reduced air quality, advising anyone with respiratory issues to stay indoors during evening and early morning hours when smoky conditions could increase.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
