New video, exclusively obtained by NBC6, captured the moment when a Miami-Dade corrections officer allegedly beat up an inmate inside the jail in 2023.
NBC6 on Friday exclusively reported that Officer Myth Louis-Jeune, 36, was arrested in January, nearly three years after the beating.
In the video from the Miami-Dade County pre-trial detention center, the officer is seen repeatedly striking an inmate while they were inside an elevator.
Roughly 11 punches were thrown, with several of them landing.
About six hours later, body camera video shows inmate Spencer Butler inside a room, and an officer is seen pointing a weapon through the window.
During this time, it’s about 2 a.m. on March 2, 2023.
Butler was then seen being pulled out of the room by a crowd of officers, and was upset about getting beaten up.
“I got my a** beat, already, And y’all talking about I am trying to do something, bro,” Butler was heard saying. “I been in cuffs for a long time. When he put his hands on me the first time.”
Officers then placed Butler in a shower, and for an unknown reason, he was pepper-sprayed.
Records show that Butler was struck by Louis Jeune on March 1.
Photos obtained by NBC6 show the officer with bloody bruises on his knuckles.
Later, Butler is asked to describe the officer’s actions in the elevator.
This is how the inmate described it:
“How do you spell aggressive?” he said. “How do you spell excessive?”
Officer Louis Jeune wasn’t charged until January of this year.
Nearly three years later, State attorneys tell NBC6 the delay in the misdemeanor charge was due to the officer’s prior attorney wanting to investigate the case.
Miami-Dade Corrections told NBC6 that the arrest stems from an investigation into staff misconduct.
On Monday, the officer’s attorney told NBC6 he had not seen the video.
Last week, he said the officer acted in self-defense and that he was just doing his job.
Butler is still in jail on unrelated charges, and his attorney did not want to comment about the officer’s arrest.
