Authorities have identified the man arrested for allegedly stealing a dump truck in Miami and fleeing on foot.
Carlton Moss, 42, was arrested on Thursday, after Miami Police officials said the owner of the dump truck woke up and realized the vehicle was gone.
An employee said a construction crew rented the truck and left it at their worksite near Miami shores Wednesday. The owner was able to track it down thanks to a GPS tracker and found it in the area of Northwest 17th Avenue and Northwest 66th Street, police said.
The owner and officers arrived and confronted Moss, who was sleeping inside, police said.
Video shows the man getting out of a dump truck, casually walking off, then running off, as an officer tries to track him down.
Officers searched the area for the suspect, officials said.
“He kept on running through backyards, he kept on hiding, he would sit down for a little bit and then start running again,” said Mike Vega of Miami Police. “Having a helicopter out there is crucial in these investigations.”
K-9s found the suspect hiding in the backyard of a house. He was hospitalized, being treated for a dog bite, police said.
Moss is charged with third-degree grand theft and resisting an officer without violence to his person.
