A man has been arrested in the death of a hit-and-run suspect in Broward after the two were involved in an altercation, authorities said.
Wayne Brutton, 57, is facing a manslaughter charge in the death of 50-year-old Humphrey Willoughby, Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said Tuesday.
The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. Sunday near the 300 block of Northwest 29th Terrace in unincorporated Central Broward.
Officials said Willoughby was driving along Northwest 29th Terrace at the same time Brutton was in his parked vehicle preparing to back into his driveway.
Willoughby sideswiped Brutton’s vehicle, then reversed and inadvertently struck Brutton’s vehicle a second time before fleeing, authorities said.
Brutton got out of his vehicle, which suffered minor damage, and pursued Willoughby on foot as witnesses stopped Willoughby’s vehicle, officials said.
A physical altercation ensued between Brutton and Willoughby and ended with Willoughby falling to the ground and becoming unresponsive, authorities said.
Deputies and fire rescue responded and Willoughby was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Brutton was arrested and booked into jail.
BSO officials said detectives are looking for more witnesses as they continue to investigate the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to call BSO at 954-321-4377.
