A burglary suspect in Fort Lauderdale accused of trying to run away and shooting a K-9 was arrested, police said.
According to Fort Lauderdale Police, on Saturday, at around 7:24 p.m., officers arrived at the 1600 block of Northwest 16th Court after receiving reports of a possible residential burglary.
At the scene, officers created a perimeter and were being helped by the Broward Sheriff’s Office’s aviation unit.
Police said the suspect tried to run away, and an officer let go of his K-9 to help stop the suspect.
The suspect then fired a gun, which struck the K-9.
The K-9 was taken to a veterinary hospital for treatment and is expected to be OK.
Back at the scene, SWAT arrived, and the suspect was eventually found and arrested.
Authorities said a gun was found in the area.
The suspect was taken to the Broward Health Medical Center for treatment after he was bitten by the K-9.
Their identity or the charges they are facing have not been released.
An investigation into the incident remains active.
