A man is facing charges after police said he struck a pedestrian while trying to flee from Miami officers on a dirt bike.
Chamari Pippins, 22, was arrested Saturday night on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding causing injury, possession of a weapon while committing an offense, resisting an officer without violence, failure to obey a police officer, and failure to have vehicle registration, jail records showed.
According to an arrest report, Miami Police were working in Wynwood in the area of Northwest 2nd Avenue and Northwest 26th Street when they spotted a large group of off-road vehicles including ATVs and dirt bikes gathering and impeding traffic.
Officers on foot patrol approached Pippins, who was operating a Yamaha dirt bike with no tag, and Pippins looked at the officers then accelerated the vehicle to try to flee, the report said.
The tires spun out and he lost control of the dirt bike, which hit a victim on the sidewalk before it struck a parked Infiniti, the report said.
The victim was hospitalized with a fractured right elbow, a laceration to her left eyelid and a laceration to her foot.
When Pippins was taken into custody, he was in possession of a Glock 45 handgun with an extended magazine that was loaded with 30 rounds, the report said.
A records check showed the dirt bike wasn’t registered, the report said.
Pippins was arrested and booked into jail. He was expected to appear before a bond court judge on Monday.
