A measure intended to clarify a 2025 Florida law regarding frames placed around a license plates was among six bills Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law late Tuesday.
The 2025 law was directed at people who try to obscure their plates. But the measure raised questions about how much the frame could obscure the state name or registration sticker before violating the law.
This year’s legislation (SB 488) followed a Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles memo issued in December that sought to clarify that the frames are fine as long as they don’t cover the primary features of the license plate — essentially the letters and numbers, or the registration.
DeSantis also signed a bill (SB 428) that alters the eligibility requirement for the state Swimming Lesson Voucher Program from four years of age and younger to between the ages of one and seven.
Another measure signed Tuesday names a mangrove-covered spoil island within Jupiter Sound after Andrew “Red” Harris, a Jupiter native and insurance broker killed in a boating accident in 2014 (HB 1219). A foundation established to honor Harris is focused on building artificial reefs in Palm Beach County.
