Dash camera video captured the moment when a driver died by suicide on the Palmetto Expressway after crashing his truck and sending another driver to the hospital.
The deadly incident happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. on Friday and shut down all lanes for hours, prompting air rescue to land on the expressway.
According to investigators, 26-year-old Reinerio De La Torre Toledo crashed into a concrete barrier wall on the Palmetto Expressway, and are confident that Toledo intentionally killed himself.
On Friday, Toledo was driving a pickup truck on Northwest 54th Street in Doral and didn’t stop, drove through the intersection and crashed into the wall, where he went over it and onto the Palmetto Expressway and hit another SUV, investigators said.
Dash camera from a nearby car captured the wreck.
After the crash, Toledo died, and paramedics rushed the other driver to the hospital.
NBC6 spoke to a man who was working nearby and heard the loud crash.
“It was horrible because the pickup truck was on top of the other truck, so I thought everyone passed away in that accident,” Nestor said.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office also said they found a gun right on the Palmetto, but didn’t specify if Toledo shot himself.
NBC6 reached out to the attorney for the driver in the other car.
