Officials said there were mental health issues involved and the incident is currently being treated as self-defense.
On Thursday morning, a woman who identified herself as a family member pulled up to the home and said her brother was a very sick individual and had attacked her father.
“We’ve seen this coming for years,” she said. “I can’t even begin to tell you what this is doing to my family.”
NBC6 found public records that showed a history of issues with the son including a restraining order against him requested by his family.
A neighbor said the couple in their 70s who own the home are kind and neighborly but she knew they had a troubled son.
The neighbor said she had seen police at the home before and had recently seen the son there.
“The day before yesterday he was running and screaming very high but he used to that,” Victoria Delgado said.
The sheriff’s office was going door-to-door Thursday to see if anyone witnessed what happened.
Officials said the shooting remains under investigation but was an isolated incident.
