Preliminary 3.7 magnitude earthquake reported in waters off Ventura County

An earthquake of 3.7 preliminary magnitude was reported Tuesday afternoon near the Channel Islands off Ventura County, the United States Geological Survey (USPS) said Tuesday.

The quake originated in the area 20 miles southwest from San Nicholas Island, one of the most remote parts of the Channel Islands, at around 1:38 p.m. Tuesday.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the earthquake.
