A small plane crashed in a building at Van Nuys Airport after it was stolen from a flight school, NBC4 Investigates has learned.
Thieves broke into a flight school at the west San Fernando Valley airport and took the single-engine Cessna, but it was not immediately clear when the theft occurred. One person has been detained in connection with the theft.
Aerial video showed the plane crashed nose-first into a building at the airport, leaving a hole in the side of the structure. Authorities said the plane did not get off the ground.
The FBI and LAX police responded to the airport.
It was not immediately clear whether authorities were searching for anyone else in connection with the crash.
