Chloe Kim’s quest for three straight Olympic golds came up just short.
The 25-year-old snowboarder from California won the silver medal in Thursday’s halfpipe event, as South Korea’s Choi Gaon overtook her on the final runs.
Kim was aiming to be the first snowboarder in history to win three consecutive Olympic gold medals after her previous victories in 2018 and 2022. Instead, the 17-year-old Choi broke Kim’s record as the youngest women’s snowboarding gold medalist.
Choi overcame a scary fall on her first run, which nearly knocked her out of the competition. Broadcasters received word that she was not going to complete her second run before she rushed to compete. Her third run gave her the gold, with an insurmountable score of 90.25 — ahead of Kim’s 88.00.
Kim also overcame injury just to compete in Italy. She dislocated her shoulder while training on Jan. 8, which put her status for Milan Cortina in question. Kim put those fears to rest with her efforts in Livigno this week, as she was first in qualification and second in the final.
Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett opens up about his relationship with Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim, sharing what he admires most about her approach to competition.
