The U.S. men’s hockey team started the Olympics on a winning note.
Team USA rolled past Latvia 5-1 Thursday in its first game of the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics. The Americans dominated play, outshooting Latvia 38-18.
Brock Nelson scored two goals for the U.S., while Auston Matthews, Tage Thompson and Brady Tkachuk also lit the lamp. Nelson was among five U.S. players with a two-point game, along with Jack Eichel, Jack Hughes, Quinn Hughes and Matthew Tkachuk.
Next up on the Americans’ Olympic slate is a back-to-back to close out the preliminary round.

When is the USA men’s hockey team’s next Olympic game?
The Americans will hit the ice Saturday at 3:10 p.m. ET to take on Denmark, which fell to Leon Draisaitl and Germany 3-1 in its opening game.
Denmark has a handful of NHL players, including Carolina Hurricanes forward Nikolaj Ehlers and goalie Frederik Andersen.

What is USA men’s hockey team’s Olympic schedule?
The U.S. will then play its final game of the preliminary round Sunday against Germany. Here’s a full look at Team USA’s preliminary round schedule:
- USA 5, Latvia 1
- USA vs. Denmark: Feb. 14 at 3:10 p.m. ET
- USA vs. Germany: Feb. 15 at 3:10 p.m. ET
Depending on where they finish in the standings, the Americans will then either compete in a qualification playoff or automatically advance to the quarterfinals.
