The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office has temporarily suspended road tests at DMV facilities due to dangerous road conditions.
According to the SOS’ office, that suspension was announced on Tuesday morning, citing “unsafe road conditions” after several days of wintry weather that have hammered the state.
Parts of the state were blanketed with snow over the weekend, with six or more inches of accumulation occurring, especially across the Chicago area.
That was followed by another blast of wintry weather on Monday evening, which brought more snow to northern parts of the state and impacted central and southern Illinois, according to the National Weather Service.
With temperatures still well below normal and with most state highways still partially or totally covered with ice and snow, the decision was made to delay or suspend road testing at DMV’s facilities across the state, according to the Secretary of State’s Office.
There was no immediate word on when those services would resume. Motorists are urged to check the state’s website for the latest information on test conditions at their local DMV.
