An Arcadia mall was placed on lockdown Wednesday evening after someone falsely reported having a firearm.
Police officers received a call just before 5 p.m. from a person who said they had a firearm in their possession and were threatening a customer at the Shops at Santa Anita, according to Crime Stoppers. Following the call, the Arcadia Police Department responded to the scene and placed the shopping plaza under temporary lockdown out of an abundance of caution.
Officers then did a search of the property and determined the call was a hoax. After determining the threat was unfounded, law enforcement lifted the lockdown and normal operations continued at the mall.
No arrests were made in connection with the phony call. Anyone with information on the case is encouraged to contact the Arcadia Police Department at 626-574-5151.
Anonymous tips can be made by contacting Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
