Video captured a harrowing moment as a Metra train collided with the front end of a vehicle at a west suburban intersection.
Hinsdale police released the footage just over an hour after the crash took place Monday.
The collision happened around 11:45 a.m. at the Monroe Street train crossing.
Video showed a vehicle stopped at the intersection, but its front end extended onto the tracks. The train hit the vehicle’s front end as it passed, causing the vehicle to spin out.
Police said the driver, who was the only person inside the vehicle at the time, was taken to Hinsdale Hospital for “very minor injuries.”
The train involved was mechanically disabled and passengers were being transferred to another train.
“Please avoid the Monroe Street train crossing at this time and be advised that train delays are expected as a result,” the department said.
Metra said trains were “back on the move” following the collision but “extensive delays” were expected.
