The 2026 World Cup is three months away, and many Major League Soccer players will suit up for their home country.
Both the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) and the Los Angeles Galaxy are expected to have players take the field during the international competition.
Here are the players with ties to LA’s MLS teams.
Canada
LAFC midfielder Stephen Eustáquio, who the club acquired on loan from FC Porto on Feb. 6, will represent Canada this summer.
Born in Ontario, Eustáquio is the vice captain of the Canada Men’s National Team and sat out of LAFC’s CONCACAF Champions Cup match Tuesday as the Canadians take injury precautions.
Mathieu Choinière, also a midfielder at LAFC, is expected to wear the Canadian kit alongside Eustáquio.
He joined Los Angeles on loan in July 2025 and became a permanent player that December.
Choinière previously represented his country at the U-20, U-23 and senior national team levels.
The 2026 MLS season is underway. Here are the important dates to know, including the World Cup break, All Star Game and Decision Day.
South Korea
One of the MLS’s largest signings, South Korea’s Son Heung-Min has already made an impact for LAFC since he joined the team in August.
The club signed the star forward from the Premier League’s Tottenham Hotspur, where he was part of a historic goal-scoring duo alongside Harry Kane.
Son led his country to secure one of the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) eight direct World Cup spots, scoring 10 goals during qualifying matches.
He will be a key player for South Korea this summer.
Andres Cantor picks his teams to look out for at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana
LA Galaxy forward Joseph Paintsil will suit up for Ghana this summer and will be a leader of his home country’s squad as they appear in their fifth World Cup.
Paintsil was one of the most impactful players for the Galaxy as they won the 2024 MLS Cup, having scored the opening goal in the title match.
He played for Ghana in their qualifying games in October.
FIFA said that $60 tickets will be made available for every game at the tournament in North America, going to the national federations whose teams are playing.
Scotland
Born in Dalkeith, Scotland, LAFC’s Ryan Porteous is set to represent his country during the World Cup.
LAFC signed Porteous in August 2025 from Watford FC, and he previously played for Scotland in the 2024 UEFA European Championship.
While the USMNT has called up players from LA’s MLS clubs in the past, it does not look like any will be named to this year’s World Cup roster.
The USMNT’s opening match against Paraguay on June 12 will be played in SoFi Stadium, which will also host two Round of 32 matches and one Quarterfinal game.
Participating nations have to finalize their rosters by May 30. Teams will range from 23 to 26 players.
Other U.S. host cities are Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Miami, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, Seattle and the Bay Area.
Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey are Mexico’s host cities. Toronto and Vancouver will host matches in Canada.
