A man armed with a knife was shot by a police officer on Sunday in Gary, Indiana, authorities said.
Gary police said officers were called to a residence in the 2100 block of Tennessee Street to assist an agency with a suicidal person who had stabbed himself. Police responded to the area and encountered the individual in an alley near East 22nd Avenue and Ohio Street.
According to authorities, the man refused an officer’s order to drop the knife and then started to move toward the officer, at which point he fired three shots. The individual was struck in the arm, police said.
Information on his condition wasn’t immediately available.
