Longtime Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their in their Los Angeles home Sunday, a source close to the Reiner family confirmed to NBC News.
The couple appeared to have died from stab wounds, the source said.
In an update Sunday night, LAPD Deputy Police Chief Alan Hamilton said officers responded to the home in Brentwood, on the west side of Los Angeles at about 3:40 p.m. and found two people dead inside. Hamilton did not identify them but said a death investigation was underway, and that the LA County Coroner would release the victims’ identities.
Hamilton said detectives were not seeking anyone as a suspect or as a person of interest until they conduct a “full crime scene investigation.”
Hamilton added that more information was expected to be released Monday morning.
The Los Angeles Police Department provided an update about two people found dead at the residence of film director Rob Reiner.
“Before we do anything here, we have to get a search warrant because there are issues regarding standing at this residence,” said Hamilton. “So as long as those legal requirements are met, we can continue the investigation.”

What happened to Rob Reiner?
The Los Angeles Fire Department said it responded to a medical aid request shortly after 3:30 p.m. and found a 78-year-old man and 68-year-old woman dead inside. Reiner turned 78 in March.
Detectives with the Robbery Homicide Division were investigating an “apparent homicide” at Reiner’s home, said Capt. Mike Bland with the Los Angeles Police Department.
Neighbors said Reiner and wife Michele live in the home, and property records indicate they own the home. The LAPD statement said it was the Reiners’ home.
Are there any suspects?
Hamilton’s update Sunday night said police have not identified a suspect.
“No one is being detained, and no one is being interviewed as suspects,” Hamilton said.
Hamilton added police there were a number of family members being interviewed.
“Were going to try and speak to every family as we can to try and get to the facts of this investigation,” he said.
Hamilton did not comment on the injuries the two victims may have suffered. He also did not confirm the identities of the two people found dead at the residence.
Remembering Rob Reiner in movies
Reiner was long one of the most prolific directors in Hollywood, and his work included some of the most memorable movies of the 1980s and ’90s, including “This is Spinal Tap,” “A Few Good Men,” “When Harry Met Sally” and “The Princess Bride.”
The filmmaking legend and his wife, Michele, got married in 1989 and have three children together, Jake, Nick, and Romy.
Tracy Reiner, Rob Reiner’s adopted daughter from his marriage to ex-wife Penny Marshall, said she was speechless upon hearing about their death.
“I came from the greatest family ever,” said Tracey Reiner. “I don’t know what to say. I’m in shock.”
In a statement posted to X, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker said he and wife MK were “devastated” to learn of the news.
