A new mural that spans 12 stories on a hotel in Torrance and features three Dodgers who stood tall in the 2025 postseason was unveiled ahead of Major League Baseball’s Opening Day.
Dodgers pitchers Roki Sasaki and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the 2025 World Series MVP, and four-time MVP Shohei Ohtani are depicted in the latest Los Angeles-area mural by artist Robert Vargas. The towering painting done free-hand was unveiled Tuesday, two days ahead of Opening Day and the Dodgers’ first step in their quest for a third straight World Series title.
The city of Torrance described “Samurai of the Diamond” as “the largest LA Dodgers mural in the world.” Augmented reality technology was used in the design on the DoubleTree Hotel.
It is one of several Vargas creations in Los Angeles.
“These murals, at the heart of it, is about representation, about bridging cultures, unity,” Vargas said. “From my Shohei Ohtani mural, ‘LA Rising’ in Little Tokyo, to my Fernando Valenzuela in Boyle Heights to, of course, this one.
“This one really celebrates a collective of these players, and I think it’s a really special time, not only in, of course, Dodgers sports, but in this community’s history.”
The Dodgers face the Diamondbacks at 5:30 p.m. at Dodger Stadium. Watch the game on NBC4 and Peacock.
