Illinois Lottery’s first $1 million-winning ticket of 2026 was bought online

An Illinois resident is celebrating the new year in a big way after capturing a $1 million Lottery jackpot.

According to Illinois Lottery officials, the state officially has its first $1 million-draw game winner of the new year after the jackpot was captured during the January 4 evening draw of the Lucky Day Lotto game.

The ticket was purchased via an Illinois Lottery online platform, according to officials.

Lucky Day Lotto draws twice a day in Illinois, with players having to match five numbers to win the jackpot, which starts at $150,000.

Each play costs $1, and tickets can be purchased at participating retailers or via the Illinois Lottery’s website or mobile app.

Winners have up to one year to claim prizes.

In addition to the jackpot, winners can earn $1 by matching two numbers, $15 by matching three numbers, or $200 by matching four numbers, according to officials.
