Authorities were investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed at a busy intersection in northwest Indiana on Tuesday evening, police said.
At approximately 5:55 p.m., the Schererville police and fire departments were called to the area of U.S. Route 41 and U.S. Route 31 for a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Police said a man was walking across the street when he was struck by a southbound vehicle along U.S. 41.
The driver remained on the scene and was cooperating with law enforcement, authorities said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and as of Tuesday night, the individual hadn’t been identified by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
The South Lake County Crash Reconstruction Team is leading an investigation into the crash.
