Route 59 was closed in both directions in the western suburbs Friday afternoon after a Tesla burst into flames when its driver crashed.
Around 5:00 p.m., aerial video footage from NBC Sky 5 shows traffic building in the area as several emergency vehicles and fire trucks blocked all traffic on Route 59 near 95th Street.
The closure on Route 59 spans from the crash site near 95th Street to Cantore Road and will continue until further notice from authorities.
A crashed vehicle could be seen with debris scattered around the area, video showed. Several firefighters could be seen tending to the vehicle, with hoses on the ground around them.
Naperville Fire Department used a special tool designed for electric vehicle fires called a “Poseidon Nozzle” that was invented by a Naperville firefighter. It helps extinguish EV batteries when they catch on fire.
