Sheriff’s deputies in north suburban Lake County were investigating a home invasion in which the victim shot the suspect, who then got ahold of the victim’s gun and attacked him, authorities said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said, at approximately 8:05 p.m. on Thursday, deputies responded to a home in the 38200 block of Sheridan Road and found a 67-year-old man with serious injuries to the face and body. He was taken to an area hospital, treated and later released.
The victim told police Brian Wisch, 47, a former neighbor, forcefully entered his home, demanded money and struck him several times with a gun before fleeing, authorities said. Deputies located Wisch the following day and discovered he had been shot by the victim during the home invasion.
Authorities learned Wisch began fighting the victim after being shot, wrestled the victim’s firearm from him, and then struck the victim several times in the face and body with the gun.
During the investigation, detectives learned the victim was selling drugs out of his home, police stated. Law enforcement obtained a search warrant and recovered nearly two pounds of cocaine and approximately $500,000, officials said.
Wisch was charged with three counts of home invasion, two counts of armed robbery and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. Officials said drug-related charges against the victim were likely in the future.
