The Chicago Cubs will host their annual fan convention this weekend, and the team will be honoring the players and coaches from the World Series-winning 2016 squad.
That roster will be honored during the convention, which will kick off on Friday at the Sheraton in Streeterville.
While a handful of players from that 2016 team are still active in Major League Baseball, a large contingent from that team will be in Chicago for the celebration of the title.
That group includes former manager Joe Maddon, who led the Cubs to three consecutive appearances in the National League Championship Series in addition to the 2016 title.
Ben Zobrist, who won World Series MVP after he drove in the go-ahead run in Game 7 of the World Series, will be in attendance, as will first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who caught the final out of Game 7.
Dexter Fowler, who hit a lead-off home run in Game 7 of the 2016 World Series, will attend the celebration of that title.
Pitchers Jon Lester and John Lackey will also be in attendance, as will the recently retired Kyle Hendricks, who started Game 7 of the 2016 World Series for the Cubs and finished in the top-three in Cy Young voting that season.
Miguel Montero, whose grand slam propelled the Cubs to a Game 1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2016 NLCS, will also be there, along with Mike Montgomery, who earned the save in Game 7 of the World Series.
Pitchers Trevor Cahill, Carl Edwards Jr, Justin Grimm, Jason Hammel, Pedro Strop and Travis Wood will all be in attendance, according to the Cubs.
Outfielders Albert Almora, Chris Coghlan, Jason Heyward and Matt Szczur will also be in Chicago for the convention.
According to the Cubs, the 2016 squad will be honored on Saturday at the convention as part of an action-packed day at the Sheraton, with more information available on the team’s website.
