A loaded firearm was found on the campus of a Perris high school Friday morning, leading authorities to place the school on lockdown, police announced.
The Val Verde District Police Department said the gun was found at around 10 a.m. at Orange Vista High School.
The student who brought the firearm to the campus was arrested and taken to a Riverside County detention center for minors, police added.
After officers conducted a sweep of the school with support from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s bomb squad and K-9 unit, no additional weapons were found, the police department confirmed.
All students and staff were safe, and no one was injured during the incident.
“We encourage everyone in our school community to follow the “see something, say something” principle,” the Val Verde District Police Department said on social media. “If you observe anything suspicious or concerning, please report it immediately to school staff or law enforcement.
