A teenager was arrested in connection with an electric motorcycle crash that left an 81-year-old pedestrian in critical condition near a high school in Lake Forest, officials said Friday.
The collision happened near El Toro High School in the area of Toledo Way and Ridge Route Drive just before 4 p.m. Thursday, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Responding deputies found the elderly man with life-threatening injuries and took him to the hospital.
Officials say the suspect, who was allegedly driving recklessly during the crash, left the area but was quickly identified as a 14-year-old boy. His name was not released by authorities because he is a minor.
A search warrant was served at his Lake Forest home, close to where the crash happened, and the teen was booked at Orange County Juvenile Hall, the sheriff’s department said.
OCSD’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
Investigators say the e-motorcycle involved in the collision is designed for off-highway use.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the sheriff’s department at 714-647-7000 or submit an anonymous tip to OC Crime Stoppers at 855-847-6227.
