Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said police patrols will increase in areas that have been targeted in a recent string of break-ins in the San Fernando Valley.
Speaking with NBC Los Angeles on Tuesday, the mayor said she prompted the Los Angeles Police Department to step up their presence in those impacted areas. LAPD said the department shifted its resources to add more visible police patrol vehicles with license plate scanners, horse-mounted police and air support.
The recent crimes in the valley have left residents feeling unsettled, something the mayor said she is aware of.
“I can tell you that our chief of police is (working with other agencies),” Bass said. “I am not, personally, but yes, law enforcement works in collaboration. Absolutely.”
Since April 10, there have been at least 13 burglaries around the valley, from Sherman Oaks and Valley Glen to Woodland Hills to Porter Ranch. However, crime data from LAPD shows that burglaries are actually down.
Since the beginning of 2026, burglaries have been down 32% when compared to the same timeframe last year. Recent trends show more burglaries are happening at homes, not businesses; Arrests have come in less than 7% of cases.
The mayor assured the public that she and law enforcement are doing all they can to give them peace of mind.
“Well, what I want to say to them is that we are not going to stop until we catch who is involved in this and hold them accountable,” Bass said.
