Man wins $1 million Scratchers prize after stop at Long Beach liquor store

Luck finally struck a man who says he likes to buy Scratchers tickets at different liquor stores.

Bernardo Escobedo told the California Lottery that he won $1 million with a $1,000,000 Money Mania Scratchers ticket he purchased at LB City Market, at the corner of Orange Avenue and 10th Street.

Escobedo said he makes a habit of trying his luck at different liquor stores.

“I’m the type of person who buys one ticket at whatever liquor store I go to,” Escobedo told the California Lottery. “I go to different ones and say, ‘Let me try here, see if this place gives me luck.’”

Escobedo, who said he had previously won up to $500 on lottery tickets, said he was shocked to win such a large amount on a $10 Scratchers ticket.

“Winning that kind of money from a $10 ticket is unbelievable. I went back inside and scanned it again because I still couldn’t believe it,” Escobedo said. He was outside the store when he realized he had won.

The winner said he is leaving what comes next up to faith.

“God will decide what comes next,” he said.
