An on-duty Cal Fire paramedic accused of sexual assault was arrested Friday, and investigators believe there may be more victims.
Riverside County Sheriff’s Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force started investigating the sexual assault allegations against 51-year-old Placentia resident David Renteria last month. At least two victims reported being sexually assaulted by Renteria, detectives said.
Officials say Renteria was taken into custody Friday while a search warrant was being served in the 1000 block of Magnolia Avenue in Placentia. He was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center on a string of charges, including false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon and rape by force or fear, according to the sheriff’s office.
In a statement to NBC Los Angeles, Cal Fire said Renteria is on administrative time off and has not returned to work since the department learned of the allegations on Jan. 4.
“CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department demands its employees uphold standards of professional conduct both on and off duty,” the statement read, in part, adding that it has been cooperating with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
Anyone who believes they may have been sexually assaulted by Renteria can contact Investigator Joe Riddle at 951-955-1700 or the Riverside Sheriff’s Dispatch at 951-776-1099.
The investigation is ongoing.
