Trial proceeding were expected to continue in Van Nuys after the mother of two young boys killed in a 2020 hit-and-run crash in Westlake Village sued two people: Rebecca Grossman, co-founder of the Grossman Burn Foundation, and Scott Erickson, former MLB pitcher who played for the Dodgers for one season.
Grossman was convicted for killing Mark and Jacob Iskander, ages 11 and 8, who were at a marked crosswalk with their family on Sep. 29, 2020. As she is already serving 15 years to life in prison, Nancy Iskander, the mother of the deceased boys, is asking a Los Angeles jury to assess Grossman and Erickson’s liability and damages.
Wednesday’s testimony comes after witnesses and investigators who responded to the deadly crash site.
Also earlier this week, accident investigators and detective from the LA County Sheriff’s Department took the stand.
When the civil trial began with opening statements last week, the Iskander family attorney, Brian Panish, described to the jury how in 2020, Grossman had been driving her white Mercedes SUV on her way home after leaving a restaurant with Erickson, her then-boyfriend.
But Grossman’s attorney, Ester Hold, said her client never tried to leave the crash site after driving into the boys.
During the criminal trial, Grossman’s attorneys argued during the trial that it was Erickson, not Grossman, who struck the boys first with his black SUV. Erickson was never called to testify in the case.
The civil trial is expected to last between six and eight weeks.
