A middle school in the Cypress Park neighborhood of Los Angeles was placed on lockdown Thursday after police received a call about a possible gunman inside the school.
The called noted that there maybe a suspect with possible weapons on the campus Florence Nightingale Middle School on Figueroa street.
Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department quickly set up containment lines around the school, now allowing anyone to go in or leave the school property.
All students and staff were safe, school officials told NBC Los Angeles as of Thursday afternoon although they were not sure when students will be released.
All parents should have received a call from the school principal, the officials said.
Officers with the LAUSD Police Department were supporting the LAPD in the investigation.
No injuries were reported as of Thursday.
