Los Angeles police on Thursday were looking for the hit-and-run driver who left a 65-year-old pedestrian dead in the Vermont area.
Authorities said the crash occurred Sunday morning at around 3:10 p.m. when a silver four-door sedan was traveling northbound on Figueroa Street near 75th Street. It was here that the vehicle struck the male victim, who was walking along Figueroa Street.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. He was later identified as Jose Melesio, a resident of Chicago.
Authorities said the driver failed to stop, identify themselves, or render aid as required by law to do so after a collision.
A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered to anyone who can lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect.
