The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline remains above $6 Friday in Los Angeles and several other California counties.
The Los Angeles County average rose 3.7 cent overnight to $6.141, the highest since Oct. 5, 2023. One week ago, the average price was $5.98. The average was $6.007 a month ago.
Since the U.S.-Israel attack on Iran Feb. 28, the average for gallon of regular has climbed $1.44.
LA County’s record high is $6.494 set on Oct. 5, 2022.
Los Angeles is one of about two dozen California counties with average gas prices topping $6. The statewide average Friday morning was at $6.06, up from Thursday’s average of $6.01 and the average one week ago of $5.88.
The Orange County average price rose 4.7 cents to $6.116, its highest amount since Oct. 3, 2023. It has increased 10 consecutive days, rising 26.9 cents, including 2.3 cents Thursday. The Orange County average price is 17.8 cents more than one week ago, 17.6 cents higher than one month ago and $1.403
above what it was one year ago.
Retail prices for regular gasoline are typically higher in California than national averages and prices in other states due to factors that include taxes and fees, and environmental and fuel requirements.
“California’s gasoline supply is significantly affected by the Strait of Hormuz closure,” Kandace Redd, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s senior public affairs specialist, said in a statement released Thursday.
The national average price rose 9.2 cents to $4.392, its highest amount since July 22, 2022. It has risen nine consecutive days, increasing 37.2 cents, including 7.1 cents Thursday.
