A busy stretch of Algonquin Road in suburban Rolling Meadows was shut down Wednesday afternoon after a “serious” accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, with closures expected to last for hours and at least one person in critical condition.
About 10:10 a.m., the Rolling Meadows Fire Department said it was on the scene of the accident, in the 2700 block of Algonquin Road near Meadowbrook Industrial Court. At least one person involved was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
As part of the investigation, eastbound lanes of Algonquin Road between Barker Lane and New Wilke Road would be closed “until further notice,” police said.
“Please avoid this area and take alternate routes,” police added.
No further details on other injuries or the circumstances surrounding the accident were provided.
Photos taken from Sky5 showed traffic cones set up in the area, with the road cleared of cars as police worked to investigate.
