With another three medals added to the tally, Team USA is still on the podium for the competition of most Olympic medals after Day 8 of the Milan Cortina Games.
Midwest native Jordan Stolz helped the U.S. medal total grow by earning gold in the men’s speedskating 500m — his second medal at in this year’s games — followed by more success in the women’s dual moguls, with Team USA’s Liz Lemley picking up bronze and Jaelin Kauf a silver medal.
Kewaskum, Wisconsin-grown Stolz was awarded a gold medal in men’s speedskating earlier in the games.
Athletes with connections to the Midwest have brought in a notable number of medals this year, helping the team reach 17 total by the end of Day 8.

What Olympic medalists have Midwest ties?
Michigan-born Evan Bates won a silver medal with his skating partner and wife Madison Chock in the figure skating pairs ice dance event.
Team USA also took home gold for the figure skating team event, with Bates contributing to the team’s winning score of 69 points.
Duluth, Minnesota natives Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin earned silver in mixed doubles curling.
As previously mentioned, Wisconsin-bred Jordan Stolz brought in a gold and silver medal for the team.
Who has the most medals as of Saturday?
Team USA is in third place with 17 medals, behind Italy with 18 and Norway with 20.
