An investigation is underway after a 37-year-old man was killed in a shooting involving police in a southwestern suburb of Chicago early Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Around 4:18 a.m., police were dispatched to 7 Cour Versaille in Palos Hills after receiving a 911 call stating a man had a shotgun and was doing to harm his girlfriend and her children, authorities said.
Police found an armed 37-year-old Gerhardt Facko when they arrived at the scene, authorities said.
“An officer involved shooting occurred,” Palos Hills Police Department said in a statement.
Facko was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. No other injuries were reported.
The Illinois State Police Public Integrity Unit is investigating the incident.
No additional information was immediately provided.
