Chicago police warned of what they call an “on-going city wide pattern” of thefts targeting airbags in late model Honda vehicles in a community alert released Wednesday.
Police previously warned of roughly 30 similar incidents in a community alert sent earlier this month and in another sent in late January.
Wednesday’s alert included two dozen incidents that occurred between February 15 and February 17 in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood.
“These are the most recent incident locations in an on-going city wide pattern,” police said in the alert. “The offenders targeted late model Honda Motor Vehicles by breaking the driver side windows and removing the airbags from the steering wheel.”
According to the alert, the thefts occurred at the following times and places:
- 3400 block of N Paulina on February 16-17, 2026 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- 3100 block of N Seminary on February 16-17, 2026 from 7:30:00 PM – 5:30 AM
- 1200 block of W Cornelia on February 16-17, 2026 from 6:00 PM – 6:45 AM
- 3300 block of N Racine on February 17, 2026 at 7:00 AM
- 1800 block of W Belmont on February 17, 2026 at 7:40 AM
- 3200 block of N Racine on February 17, 2026 at 6:40 AM
- 1100 block of W Cornelia on February 67, 2026 at 11:00 PM
- 1200 block of W Melrose on February 17, 2026 at 6:40 AM
- 3200 block of N Racine on February 17, 2026 at 6:40 AM
- 3000 block of N Kenmore on February 17, 2026 at 12:00 AM
- 3300 block of N Racine on February 17, 2026 at 6:46 AM
- 1100 block of W Newport on February 17, 2026 at 6:40 AM
- 1100 block of W Cornelia on February 17, 2026 at 6:40 AM

Police describe the suspects in Wednesday’s community alert as one to two males.
Chicago vehicle owners should consider investing in an anti-theft device for the steering wheel that covers the airbag to prevent theft, police said.
