A deadly rollover crash on the Bishop Ford (I-94) overnight closed lanes for hours, with backups possible for the morning commute as a ramp remains blocked while officials work to investigate.
According to Illinois State Police, the single-vehicle rollover crash occurred about 1:15 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-94 near 111th Street.
Two people inside the vehicle were pronounced dead on the scene, police said, and three others transported to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.
Early Thursday morning, NBC 5 traffic reporter Kye Martin said those injured were in “grave condition.”
Photos and video from the scene showed multiple emergency vehicles including ambulances, fire trucks and police cars surrounding parts of the freeway. A vehicle that appeared to be an SUV could be seen completely overturned, with debris strewn along the grass and road.
A police source told Martin family members arrived at the crash scene overnight. Those family members went to the hospital to be with the surviving victims.
According to ISP, northbound lanes at 111th Street were closed until 4:40 a.m. As of 6:35 a.m., the ramp at 111th Street remained closed as the investigation continued.
