Texas Rep. Al Green was escorted out of the House chamber on Tuesday during President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address.
Green, who was censured earlier this year for disrupting Trump’s last joint address to Congress, was walked out of the chamber by the Sergeant at Arms after holding up a sign during Trump’s entrance.
Television cameras captured Green holding a sign that read “Black People Aren’t Apes,” which he continued to do as he was walked out.
Green had been censured in March by Congress for disrupting Trump’s last address to the chamber, with 10 Democrats joining all of the House Republicans in supporting the measure.
The vote was 224-198 against Green, according to the House.
During the president’s last speech to Congress, Green repeatedly yelled at Trump that he had “no mandate” to cut Medicaid funding. He was ultimately escorted out of the chamber by the Sergeant at Arms.
Green was the 28th House member ever to be censured according to officials.
