Palatine-based Weber has recalled more than 3.2 million wire grill brushes over concerns metal bristles can detach, stick to food and be accidentally swallowed, posing a risk of causing “serious internal injuries.”
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the nationwide retailer recalled six different types of Metal Wire Bristle Grill Brushes following at least 38 reports in which bristles detached from the brushes. Four of those instances involved people who swallowed the metal bristles and needed medical treatment to remove them from their throat of digestive tract, according to the CPSC.
Here are the recalled models, their descriptions and distribution dates:
- 6277 – 12” black plastic handle with red ring stamped with Weber grill logo – 2021-2026
- 6278 – 18” black plastic handle with red ring stamped with Weber grill logo – 2021-2016
- 6463 – 12” bamboo handle with silver metal scraper on the back branded with Weber logo name – 2011-2021
- 6464 – 18” bamboo handle with silver metal scraper on the back branded with Weber logo name – 2011-2021

- 6494 – 12” black plastic handle with black ring stamped with Weber grill logo – 2013-2021
Costumers should stop using the brushes immediately and contact Weber for a “cold cleaning nylon bristle grill brush replacement,” according to the CPSC.
The recalled brushes were sold online and in stores at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and Target, and online at Amazon and Weber.com – and also have been found on resale sites.
Anyone with questions about the recall is asked to call Weber toll free at 877-597-9588 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit a dedicated webpage.
