TikTok users in Chicago and across the U.S. reported issues with the social media platform Tuesday and the company said an issue with a data center is to blame.
Reports of problems on TikTok started popping up on DownDetector around 8 a.m. Tuesday and grew to almost 700 reports by noon. By 3:30 p.m., over 990 users had reported issues with the app, according to DownDetector.
Issues at an Oracle data center caused TikTok users to experience problems, including with posting content, the company said.
“An issue with an Oracle data center is impacting some parts of the TikTok U.S. user experience. Creators may temporarily experience lags in posting content while Oracle works to resolve the issue. We appreciate your patience and understanding and will keep you updated,” TikTok said in a post on social media.
A heatmap of reports shows users in many cities across the country were experiencing problems, including in Chicago, Minneapolis, New York, Los Angeles, San Diego and more.
Oracle also shared details about the outage on social media.
TikTok had an outage at the end of January due to winter weather that cut power at one of the primary U.S. data centers operated by Oracle that the company uses.
Facebook users also reported issues on Tuesday.
Around 3 p.m., reports began popping up on DownDetector from Facebook users reporting issues with the social media platform.
By 3:50 p.m., over 6,300 users had reported issues with Facebook.
No additional information was immediately available.
