A food manufacturer has dramatically expanded a recall affecting a popular Trader Joe’s product, adding a range of other food items over concerns of possible glass contamination.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said Tuesday the company Ajinomoto Foods North America recalled approximately 33,600,000 additional pounds of various ready-to-eat and not ready-to-eat items, including chicken and pork fried rice, ramen, and shu mai dumpling products.
Among the items are four Trader Joe’s products with the following expiration dates:
- Chicken Fried Rice – Best By Dates 03/04/2026 through 02/10/2027
- Vegetable Fried Rice – Best By Dates 02/28/2026 through 11/19/2026
- Japanese Style Fried Rice – Best By Dates 02/28/2026 through 11/14/2026
- Chicken Shu Mai – Best By Dates 03/13/2026 through 10/23/2026
The manufacturer initially recalled approximately 3,400,000 pounds of frozen chicken fried rice in late February, saying the item “may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically glass,” according to the FSIS. The expanded recall includes 16 products produced between Oct. 21, 2024, and Feb. 26, 2026, under brand names Ajinomoto, Kroger, Ling Ling, Tai Pei, and Trader Joe’s.
The full list of recalled products, in addition to their lot numbers and expiration dates, can be found here.
Customers who purchased any of the items are encouraged to throw them away or return them for a refund.
According to the FSIS, the manufacturer notified the agency about multiple complaints of glass in its products. The company conducted an investigation and determined carrots were likely the source of contamination in both the initial and expanded recalls.
There have been no confirmed reports of injuries, the federal agency said.
