More than 10,000 people were left in the dark after a band of fierce storms tore through parts of Kankakee County and northwest Indiana, heavily damaging homes and toppling trees.
the majority of the outages were reported in and near Kankakee, along with Jasper and Newton counties northwest Indiana, which were among the hardest-hit areas.
As of 9 p.m., ComEd reported 4,518 customers without power in the Kankakee area. Around 1,800 of those affected were in Aroma Park, where buildings were severely damaged. In addition, storms left more than 2,500 customers without electricity in the Momence area.
ComEd, in a message on its website, said, it is “closely monitoring the weather activity across the territory. Our crews are on alert and will be ready to respond to any reported outages.”
NIPSCO in northwest Indiana, meanwhile, reported more than 4,400 outages.

- Demotte – 570
- Lake Village – 1,684
- Shelby – 230
- Wheatfield – 687
