College student from Chicago suburbs reported missing in Barcelona

A University of Alabama student from the Chicago suburbs has been reported missing while visiting friends in Barcelona, Spain, family told NBC Chicago.

Jimmy Gracey, who is from Elmhurst, was last seen by a friend at around 3 a.m. Tuesday at Shôko, a beachfront nightclub, relatives said in a social media post. In a Facebook post, Gracey’s mother said he didn’t return to the bed and breakfast where he was staying.

She also said police were in possession of his phone, but it was unclear how they obtained it.

Gracey was wearing a white t-shirt and dark pants and typically wears a gold chain with a rhinestone cross.

A University of Alabama spokesperson shared the following statement to NBC Chicago:

“James Paul Gracey is a UA student on a personal trip. UA staff are in touch with the family and those associated with them to offer support and assistance in any way possible.”
